Sassi of Matera
The Sassi district is the ancient heart of the city of Matera.
The Sassi surround the Civita and constitute a city unto itself, completely carved out of the face of the calcareous rock -what is known as tufa stone. The Sassi district is a system made of dwellings carved out of the steep slopes of a deep valley with surprising and unusual features called the ‘Gravina’.
Elegant and multi-faceted buildings are interspersed with underground mazes and cave labyrinths, forming one single stunning landscape....

National Archaeological Museum of Siritide
The National Museum of Siritide of Policoro is located near the ancient Siris-Herakleia.
It is devoted to the Greek colonies of Siris (VII-VI century B.C.) and Herakleia (V century B.C. - A.D. I-II century) and to the Italic world of the Agri and Sinni valleys.
Through an exhibition based on chronological and topographical criteria, it supplies information about different aspects of the two subsequent Greek colonies, such as civil, economic and religious life and handicraft.
The archaeological finds come from both the towns and the respective necropolises, such as the so-called ‘Tomba di Policoro’.

Oasi WWF Policoro Herakleia
This last part of the plain forest, unique in Italy, although deeply altered over the years by human activities, is a natural biotype that still has a significant scientific, ecological, landscape and cultural interest.
The Oasis is part of the Bosco Pantano of Policoro Regional Reserve and manages the part of the forest mantle (21 ha) that falls within the boundaries of the municipality of Policoro (Matera). It includes one of the most important naturalistic features of the Reserve: the environment is typically marine, with the presence of the last remaining hygrophilous forest, only a few meters away from the Ionian Sea. Among the most significant natural elements we recall the wooded areas of Mediterranean scrubland, sandy and marshes included in the southernmost area of the Reserve. It is an area of exceptional interest for the study, observation and teaching related to the fauna and ecosystems related to this particular wood that represents a real natural laboratory.

National Park of Pollino
Silent age-old beech tree woods and pine forests grow at higher altitudes; chestnuts and oaks cover the lower slopes, while Mediterranean scrub is predominant in the valleys.
The symbol of the Park is the rare Loricate Pine, which derives its name from its bark, that looks like a "lorica", or a cuirass.
The Park, with its relaxing atmospheres, is a perfect nature gym for everybody.
Evidence of the prosperity of the ancient polis of ‘Metapontum’ can still be found in the archaeological areas.
On a hill, it is possible to admire the ‘Tavole Palatine’, name that usually refers to the ruins of the extra urban temple dedicated to Hera.
Built in Doric style in 530 B.C., it is the only worship monumental building whose external colonnade has been partly preserved.
The original construction used to have 6 columns on the short side and 12 columns on the long side, but there are only 15 left, arranged in two wings, respectively of 10 and 5 columns each, which support two pieces of an architrave. The columns were restored in 1961.
